Final Project Musings

Five things I learned from my publication...

I feel like this project helped me with many aspects of how to layout type in interesting ways. One being able to maintain a type system throughout the entire publication. Second, using type to peak visual interest. In my case, having the type break margins and mixing type faces, and using different type sizes. Third, having the same color scheme. It goes along with my type system, but I feel like the color doesn't have to stay completely consistent through a type system and mine did. Fourth, I feel like I got better at laying out type. Before, I felt like I was putting it in areas that didn't make much sense and now I think I corrected that with certain pages. Last of all I think I improved on choosing better typefaces. Before I was using typefaces that weren't not appealing to the eye and I chose type faces that felt business like which match the feel of my publication.

Five things I should have learned about type...

In terms of things I could do better would be laying out bigger blocks of text in a more organized manner. It could have used a little more visual weight on certain pages, but overall I thought my publication was cohesive throughout the entire design. I also felt some of my pages had type that was too large and it needed to be scaled down. My book I believe could have used some fold outs or bigger versions of my work. Some of the work has very small text and isn't completely legible. Even though I did the required amount of pages for the book, it does feel a little emptier than I would have liked. Compared to some people who did double the amount of pages I just feel like it feels shallow.
Kayla added half pages, which would have been a nice addition. Sydney used illustrations, which I only included one page. It could have been nice to add more. Alyssa used very interesting layouts where I used very simple. Maybe I could used a little more interesting layouts to peak visual interest. Jeff's used interesting shapes to house his text and even direct people through his publication. In some areas of my book, I feel like I could have enclosed my text in shape. Jordan used a lot of visuals for transition and his book just looked very clean. He had a whole theme and my did with color but the whole greek format was interesting idea that I could have used in a different manner for my publication.
